Sonny isn’t out of the woods yet، but volunteers and vets are working hard to help him get back on track. This elderly cat had been discovered in very bad shape and left to fend for itself، before being taken care of by an association.
The life of a senior cat named Sonny was one of neglect and suffering until his rescue last weekend، as reported by British media The Gazette on Monday June 7.
He had been discovered by a passerby in a garden in Marton، in the suburbs of Middlesbrough (North-East England). The latter had immediately informed a local association، Tender Paws Cat Rescue.
The cat، whose age was estimated at 15 or 16 years، lived in a completely unsanitary shelter. Very thin، sick and covered in fleas، he had spent his whole life there. Chrissie Meryem، founder of Tender Paws Cat Rescue، learned that he had been born there and that his mother had left with the 2 other kittens in her litter، leaving him there alone.
It is “the worst case of animal neglect that the association has ever seen ”، according to the volunteer.
After his discovery، Sonny was admitted to the veterinary emergency room at Greenways Centre، Ansdell. His state of health still raises concerns to this day. Chrissie Meryem wants to keep hope، but she remains torn about her chances of survival. ” It’s 50/50 ،” she says about it. However، she indicates that the senior cat is eating، which is a good sign.
His team and the veterinarians are awaiting the results of blood tests and x-rays. The feline was given painkillers and antibiotics. For Chrissie Meryem، the fact that he was able to survive despite all the illnesses that overwhelm him is already a small miracle. In addition to its suffering and its appearance، the founder of Tender Paws Cat Rescue also evokes the terrible smell that the cat had when it was rescued; she compares it to that of ” decayed flesh.”
At the veterinary center، everyone is mobilized to help him get back on his feet. Chrissie Meryem and her comrades will also make sure that he feels loved and cared for. “ Whether he has days، weeks، months or even years left to live، all I want is for him to experience love and kindness ،” she concludes.
